APEDA
Definition
The Agricultural and Processed Food Products Export Development Authority (APEDA) is an Indian government body under the Ministry of Commerce and Industry responsible for promoting and regulating the export of scheduled agricultural and processed food products, including many spices and food commodities.
Why It Matters
Many spice and food exporters from India are required to register with APEDA (Registration-cum-Membership Certificate, or RCMC) to export scheduled products and to access export promotion schemes.
Example
An exporter shipping dehydrated onions or processed spice blends may need an APEDA RCMC as part of their export documentation.
